Before Liquid Lipsticks came along and became super popular, there was matte lipstick.

Just regular old matte lipstick.....

I don't know about you, but I know that I have been so caught up in the hype of liquid lipstick that I completely forgot how much I love a nice matte lip that is long wearing but doesn't dry down completely.

Lately, I have found myself gravitating more towards traditional matte lipsticks for a few different reasons:

1. I like to switch my lip color a few times a day
2. slightly friendlier on my dry lips
3. The finish doesn't settle into my lip lines as much


Today, I want to share a few of my favorite matte lipsticks that can be found in your local drugstore.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick

Creamy matte is an on point description for this formula. It goes on creamy and has an almost whipped texture. I love that these are completely matte, but are still comfortable on the lips. I actually only own 2 of these. This Blushing Rose and Spice and I have had them on rotation all week.

Wet n Wild Megalast Matte Lipstick

These lipsticks are the first matte formula I truly fell in love with from the Drugstore. I love the large color range and most are comfortable, creamy and matte. I will say that some colors seem to be patchier and drier than others. Mauve Outta Here is my favorite mauve lipstick. This one is my second one and I wear this as much as possible. It's the perfect color for the office or with a bold eye. The only real con of this lipstick is the packaging, it's not sturdy at all and frankly annoying. The caps break easily so I have to be really careful with these, but for $1.99 its truly not a big deal.

NYX Matte Lipstick

I remember when these first launched. We had just got an Ulta in my area and I was so excited to get these. I started off with Shocking Pink and Indie Flick and I literally wore them every chance I got that summer. This formula is so comfortable and pigmented. I can get about 4 - 5 hours of wear out of these, which is awesome for a traditional lipstick. One of my recent favorite colors is Siren ( a deep red)

 Milani Color Statement Matte Lipstick

When Milani first launched these lipsticks, they were so hard to find that I waited a few months before testing them out. I knew that I loved the normal color statement lipsticks and these did not disappoint at all. These go on smooth and are not drying at all. They also last about 4 hours, which is I also love the bold colors that these come in. Confident is my everyday red, like the red I wear when I am rocking an almost bare face. I think that a lot of skin tone will be able to rock this color and fall in love with it.
