Nyx Professional Makeup Duochromatic Lip Gloss: Review + Swatches

By Trecee Hutchinson - 12:08:00 PM

Lately, I have been totally obsessed with glossy lips. Now don't get me wrong, matte lips will always have a special place in my heart, but I have found myself gravitating towards interesting and unique lip gloss shades lately. In January, Nyx released a bunch of new products including these glosses called the Duochromatic Lip Glosses.

Right now, this line offers 10 shades of  "hypnotic hues loaded with pearls". The shade range varies from basic nudes and pink bases all the way to purples and blue based glosses. I picked mine up at Ulta and paid $7.99 for each gloss, which given the fact they are so unique I didn't really mind. Last year, Becca released similar lip glosses called Liquid Crystal Glow Glosses  that retailed for $22 (on sale for $11 here) at Sephora, so $7.99 is a steal especially considering they both perform the same.

I was also really intrigued to try out this gloss because I love the other product from Nyx's Duochromatic Collection, the Duochromatic Illuminating Powder, which you can read more about in this post. I ended up picking four shades in total.

Price: $7.99

Availibility: Ulta and Nyx Professional Makeup website

Swatches

Left to Right: Cocktail Party, Spring It on, Booming,Gypsy Dreams
Cocktail Party - nude base with pink , gold and green reflect glitter
Spring it On - Pink base with true gold glitter
Booming - Pink with Gold Duochromatic pearls
Gypsy Dreams - Lavender with blue, gold and silver duochrome pearls

Packaging

The packaging for this gloss is really basic and no frills. It's really similar to the HD concealer from the brand. The flat doe foot applicator that makes application easy and it feels really sturdy and disperses the product on the lips precisely.

Pigmentation

For a lip topper, these glosses have really good pigmentation. Some shades I tried were more sheer than others, but I still feel like you can see the color and the duochrome in each swatch and on the lips if you use a few layers. Cocktail Party and Spring it on are perfect under nude or pink lipsticks, while Gypsy Dreams showed up pretty well on my lips on its own.

Performance

I have been wearing these lip glosses non stop both alone and over matte liquid lipstick and love that they aren't too sticky and feel comfortable on my lips. They also aren't gritty like other glitter glosses, so they feel really smooth on the lips.  These can be worn alone or to enhance your favorite lippy. I love that these can be built up too. If you're feeling extra you can pile it on and it actually shows up. When I just want a little somethin', I put a dab on the center of my lips and they complement most lipsticks perfectly.

Like a lot of glosses, these will extend the wear time of your lipcolor. Typically, I can get about 4 hours of wear of out a typical bullet lipstick, but when I layer any of these glosses on top they lasted the whole day even through my constant eating and drinking.

If you love to experiment with your lip color, this gloss is for you. I would say if you're skeptical, pick one up and try it out, you will not be disappointed.  If Nyx releases more shades I will definitely be picking up more.

You can find the Duo Chromatic Lipgloss at Ulta Beauty here or on the Nyx website.
