On Instagram and in real life, the most frequently asked question I get is about skincare and how I keep my complexion smooth and clear.
Today, I want to share with you my top tips for a clear and radiant complexion when I am not wearing makeup ( which honestly is about 4 days a week).
Keep in mind, my skin is SUPER dry and frequently flaky AF. Also, I am not an expert but these are the things that work best for me. Most of these items are extremely affordable and accessible.
H2O is the Cure
Water is so essential to great skin. I typically try to set water goals for everyday. I keep a three pint water bottle with me at all times and drink it throughout the whole day and with every meal.SPF!!
Sunscreen wasn't an intuitive product for me until I reached my 20s. At 28, I do not leave the house with out it and I keep some on me to touch up when I am in the sun for long periods of time. My everyday moisturizer is the L'oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer Face Lotion SPF 50. It is infused with Vitamin E and grape seed oil. It's also super light and comfortable. I also use the Palmer's Eventone Sunbalm for extra moisture. This product provides sun protection and smooths my skin and dry patches out. It really helps with keeping skin even and fights against premature aging.Face Masks
I love to pamper myself with different face masks. My favorite mask hands down is the Freeman Beauty Feeling Beauty Mint and Lemon Clay Mask. This clay mask delivers relief from inflammation caused by breakouts. It also absorb oils to minimize shine and large pores. Whenever I get a hormonal breakout, I put this on and it immediately goes away.
Professional Pampering (Treat Yo' Self!)
I don't really use a lot of expensive skin care products, but I do pamper by skin with a professional facial every other month. My favorite facial is the Hydra Facial at the Waldorf Astoria Spa. It makes my skin feel like baby skin. This particular machine assisted facial uses breakthrough aesthetic technology to remove dead skin cells and impurities painlessly while simultaneously cleansing, hydrating and moisturizing new skin. It cost about $140 for 30 minutes, but its so worth it and really refreshes my skin especially in the summerCleaser Rotation and Routine
Another way I keep my skin in tip top shape is not letting it get used to products. I switch up cleansers a few days a week. My favorite cleanser when I am extra dry is the Even True Skin Perfecting Cleanser. It has a lotion like consistency, but totally clarifies my skin and smooths out the dry patches on my forehead. The Alba Botanica Even Advanced Sea Mineral Cleansing gel is perfect for when I need a nice deep clean. I also use the CeraVe Moisturizing Cleanser. Another tip for cleansing that works well for me, is only washing my face with a cleanser once a day. I use just a wash cloth and warm water in the morning and use my cleanser at night. I also tone my skin using the Videau Facial Cleanser. This toner has done wonder for keeping my skin even and clear. It has calendula flower and witch hazel and really tightens my skin. This is the toner I have used that I would repurchase over and over. I also never sleep with makeup on, even if I am just taking a nap. I will take my whole face off with the quickness before sleeping in makeup.Exfoliate 2 - 3 times a week
Exfoliation is one of the most important step in keeping your skin poppin'. I prefer gentle exfoliates over harsh sand like exfoliators so I have been using the Alba Pineapple Enzyme Facial Scrub withmy Ecotools Charcoal sponge two or three times a week and I love the way this combo makes my skin feels. The sponge acts as an extra dose of gentle exfoliation and acts against skin impurities.
